The entry above
from the 1961 Annual reflects only
some of the ways classmates came to
know Ron Bergamo and the fun-loving
style of leadership that would
ultimately become his trademark.
He went on to
graduate from the University of
Arizona; married Jane, who matched
his positive outlook in every way;
became a father and a successful
television executive and community
leader.
In 2007, Ron
agreed to serve as Chairman of our
50th Reunion, convening
the first planning meeting on Sept.
29th. Already full of
ideas, he could hardly contain his
enthusiasm, his vision for how we
would create “an affordable, yet
first-class reunion.”
Then, on Jan, 6,
2008, Ron was killed in an auto
accident outside Prescott, AZ. The
committee took a timeout. By late
spring, Paul Katsenes had agreed to
become the new chair, but he
emphasized that Ron’s goals and
ideas would continue to serve as the
committee’s guidelines.
One of the
primary goals Ron had expressed was
his desire to keep reunion costs
down by seeking contributions from
classmates who were willing to
provide extra financial assistance.
With that in mind, the committee
established a Ron Bergamo
Memorial Fund with all proceeds
directed to defraying reunion costs
across the board, thus reducing
costs to those attending. Jane
enthusiastically endorsed the Fund
and its goals.
The Fund
continues to accept donations. If
you wish to contribute, please
make your check payable to “North
High School Reunion Committee.”
